Amber Warning Issued as Storm Ashley Hits Scotland

October 19, 2024 — Scotland is in full alert as Storm Ashley hits the country with severe weather conditions that have been pushed toward an amber warning by the UK Met Office. The storm, labelled as a ‘weather bomb’, will drench heavy rains and rush powerful winds, all of which will disrupt diverse parts of the country within the next 48 hours.

The gusts will be powerful enough to blow up to 110-130 km/h (70-80 mph), especially along the coast and also on mountainous terrain. 100 mm (4 inches) of rain fall will be realized. Flooding in lowland and urban areas might be observed with greater probability due to this kind of intense rainfalls. Landslides in saturated soil areas are also a potential outcome. Passengers are likely to be affected in roads, railways, and ferry services with some cancellations already announced. Airports in Glasgow and Edinburgh have warned passengers to check their flights.
