California Motorsports Park Shuts Down Amid Legal Battle Following Death of 9-Year-Old Racer in ‘Freak Accident’
Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, a California venue known for its motocross tracks, has permanently closed its doors after a tragic accident earlier this year resulted in the death of 9-year-old rider Brooke Carlton. The closure follows a legal battle stemming from a June incident where young Brooke was fatally injured in what the park has described as a “freak accident.”
The fatal accident occurred when another young rider collided with Carlton on the track, throwing her from her bike and leaving her unconscious. Despite the swift intervention of Good Samaritans who administered CPR until paramedics arrived, she later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. The other rider involved in the collision escaped with minor injuries.
In the aftermath, the park faced a lawsuit from Carlton’s family, which eventually included the property owner in the litigation. This prompted the property owner to terminate their agreement with the park, effectively ending its operations. Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park shared the news on social media, stating, “The property owner has terminated our agreement, as they are being brought into [the lawsuit] as well.”
The park had previously expressed deep sadness over Carlton’s death, calling it a “freak accident” and urging the community to focus on supporting her family rather than casting blame. “This is not a time to bash the track but a time to remember this little girl and support her family,” the park posted shortly after the incident, emphasizing their commitment to helping the grieving family.
The park’s closure marks the end of a difficult chapter for Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park, which has been a popular spot for motocross enthusiasts. The park’s owners also noted that both the landlord and city government had been supportive in dealing with the tragedy and the ensuing legal issues.
