24 October 2024, First-degree murder charges have been laid against 36-year-old Stacey Downey in the shooting death of 37-year-old Triston McNally, a Brampton man, who was killed in Toronto’s west end. Downey was earlier subject to a Canada-wide warrant. She was taken into custody on October 19. She made her first appearance in bail court on October 20.
A shooting happened on September 1, 2024, in Belgravia near Eglinton Avenue West and Times Road, which is just west of Oakwood Avenue. Gunfire was reported to Toronto police at about 6:19 am. Officers arrived in an alleyway near an after-hours club where McNally lay bleeding with grave gunshot injuries. Despite life-saving efforts right away, McNally was declared dead shortly after he had been transported to hospital.
McNally’s death represents Toronto’s 57th homicide of the year. Cops have continued to investigate the incident and called for anyone who may have more information to come forward. They are also appealing for anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers for more information about the murder and surrounding circumstances.
The sad event has brought into the open once again the call in the community for public safety around after-hour venues. Community cooperation is paramount in such investigations, and police sought to reassure that efforts were well underway to ensure public safety.
The arrest of Downey has brought partial closure to this case, but the investigators are reconstructing the continuity that led to McNally’s death. The legal process is expected to go ahead in the ensuing months, with close monitoring by the authorities.
