He portrayed one of the most notable villains in the 1979 cult classic The Warriors-David Harris, 75. He died from his home in New York after the long battle with cancer, on October 25, 2024.
While Harris’s work in the film as Cochise will forever be iconic, it brought to the screen one of the city’s local gangs and its fight for survival in their new territory; while being pursued by opposing factions of their own sort. The film soon reached cult status and stamped its seal on Harris’s work for an audience to celebrate forever.
Apart from being one of the most recognizable faces in The Warriors, Harris had a diverse film career. Among his exploits in films are Brubaker and A Soldier’s Story, and a number of roles in shows such as NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues. He played policemen, soldiers, and authoritative figures quite a number of times over his long course lasting several decades.
David Harris’s death deprives us of a talented actor whose work will inspire future generations of moviegoers. This magnificent thespian’s contribution to the film fraternity is rich and vigorous, in particular with The Warriors.
