Santa Clara, CA – A scary weekend moment involved the family of Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones being injured in a freak collision into a barricade en route to Levi’s Stadium for Sunday’s highly anticipated game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The incident involved Jones’ family members in a car that crashed into a temporary metal barricade erected along an access route reserved for game-day traffic Sunday afternoon near the stadium. Preliminary reports are that the barricade either moved or was poorly positioned to block the path of the vehicle’s travel.
The emergency responders immediately treated the injured passengers on the spot. No information was disclosed regarding the condition of the injury; however, sources close to the family revealed that none of the passengers suffered from fatal injuries. Nonetheless, several occupants sustained bruises, minor cuts, and possible concussions that needed further medical attention.
Authorities in Santa Clara said that an investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing. It is checking whether the placing of the barricade was proper for safety standards, or whether human error was involved, or if the weather conditions contributed to the incident. Eyewitness accounts from the scene said the congestion of traffic on surrounding roads leading to the canal was intense, adding to potential confusion by drivers.
Jerry Jones-who was not in the car at the time of the incident-released a short statement, saying he was relieved his family members were safe, though he added the scare was huge. “We are grateful for the quick response from emergency personnel. Everyone is on the road to recovery, and we appreciate the concern from fans and the NFL community,” Jones said.
After that rather unsettling incident, the Cowboys continued to play; however, the result remained far from what was expected. The 49ers dominated that match as they ended up decisively claiming victory over Dallas and put a shadow on an already difficult day for the Jones family.
The NFL has also been informed of the issue. It is not known if this might change any game-day traffic arrangements at Levi’s Stadium in response.
Fans and other owners within the NFL began to send their best wishes via social media to the Jones family for their strength through the storm and speedy recovery. For the second time, a statement was released by the Cowboys organization, which read: “We are focused on healing and ensuring our family’s well-being.
Further updates are awaited as the investigation unfolds, and now management of stadiums and traffic control teams will be asked to explain how the barricade was placed and whether there has been an oversight.
