Shocking Allegations Surface in Southern California Murder Case
A Glendale man is facing multiple charges in what officials are calling a brutal double murder and robbery involving a couple he allegedly owed $80,000. Huangting Gong, 30, has been charged with murder, kidnapping, arson, and burglary, accused of killing Jing Li and Kuanlun Wang, both 37, and burning their bodies in the Southern California desert. Authorities say the violence was followed by a brazen theft of $250,000 in luxury goods from the couple’s home.

Accusations of Debt and Depravity
Prosecutors say that Gong owed Wang $80,000, though they have not detailed the nature of the debt. On October 12, Gong allegedly shot Wang in the head, placed his body in Wang’s Tesla, and drove to the Brea home Wang shared with Li. Once there, Gong reportedly confronted Li, demanding access to her phone using physical force.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, “No one deserves the fate of being executed and set on fire in the middle of the desert.” District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed the community’s horror, calling the crime one of disturbing depravity.
A Grim Journey to the Desert
Officials allege that Gong forced Li into her Tesla and drove her to the San Bernardino desert, where he shot her and set her body ablaze. He then returned to Brea, picked up Wang’s body, and transported it to the Riverside County desert, where it too was burned. After disposing of the bodies, Gong allegedly burned both Teslas in separate desert locations to cover his tracks.
“Depravity does not adequately describe the callousness involved,” Spitzer said.
High-Stakes Robbery: A $250,000 Theft
Authorities allege that Gong returned to the couple’s Brea home after the murders and stole luxury items valued at $250,000. The items reportedly included high-end watches, handbags, shoes, and clothing. The theft highlights what prosecutors describe as a planned and calculated scheme. Gong was arrested on November 5 at Los Angeles International Airport as he returned from Seattle. Authorities say his capture was the result of coordinated investigative efforts.
