Russian tennis super-star Andrey Rublev recently admitted that he had a hair’s breadth escape from a life-threatening medical emergency after the US Open. In fact, during urgent surgery for his condition, doctors were given permission to amputate in case it was necessary. Fortunately, timely intervention kept worst-case scenarios from unfolding, and Rublev is now recovering although he described lingering physical challenges after the procedure. It was not so bad, considering he missed a couple of tournaments, but he did pretty well for himself, going to the quarterfinals in Beijing and eventually regaining his strength on court.
